Who can register a .ca domain?
A .ca tells visitors you’re in Canada. To register one, you need a Canadian presence, as set by CIRA, the organization that manages .ca.
- Canadian citizens and permanent residents
- Businesses incorporated in Canada or in a province
- Nonprofits, associations and other organizations based in Canada
- Owners of a trademark registered in Canada, for a domain matching that trademark
Transfer a domain you own
Bring your domain to the same account as your hosting. Your website and email keep working during the transfer.
Unlock it and get the code
At your current registrar, unlock the domain and ask for the transfer code (also called EPP or authorization code).
Enter it in your order
Add the domain and the code when you order. The transfer price includes one more year.
Approve the transfer
You may get an email asking you to approve it. Once done, the domain appears in your client portal.

Do I need hosting to register a domain?
No. You can register or transfer a domain on its own, and add hosting later if you want.
Should I choose .ca or .com?
If your customers are in Canada, a .ca shows that right away. If your name is available in both, many businesses register both and point one to the other.
What happens at renewal?
With auto-renew on, your domain renews at the same yearly price before it expires. We email you before every renewal. You can turn auto-renew off in your client portal.
How long does a transfer take?
It depends on the domain and your current registrar. Most transfers finish within a few days. Your website and email keep working the whole time.
Can I keep my domain where it is and use your hosting?
Yes. Your domain can stay with your current registrar. We send you the DNS settings to point it to our servers.
Can I move my domain away later?
Yes. It’s your domain. Ask for the transfer code in your client portal or by writing to us, and move it wherever you want.
